THE PERMANENT RAIN PRESS – Australian-born Freya Tingley isn’t a newcomer to acting. The 19 year-old actress had roles in the Aussie thriller X: Night of Vengeance and the short films Lost and Found and Beneath the Waves before landing the role of Christina Wendell on Netflix’s horror thriller series, Hemlock Grove. The actress, who had her heart set on acting at age 12, can currently be seen as Wendy Darling on ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
We had the opportunity to interview Tingley via email. Check it out below.
Were you always interested in pursuing acting as a career?
I had always loved creating and had always intended to pursue a career in the arts! I loved to sing and paint and create different characters or mimic people! Then, I took an acting workshop at 14 and from that day forth I decided that acting was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!
You portray Christina Wendall in Hemlock Grove. What is your favourite part about playing this role?
What I loved about portraying Christina was playing with a range of varying human conditions along with the underlying emotional complexities of her character! What I also really enjoyed doing, was playing the ever increasing duality of Christina’s personality as the story progressed!
You appeared in Once Upon A Time, as Wendy Darling. As such an iconic, well-known character in J.M. Barrie’s world of Peter Pan, what do you believe is her best quality?
I think that Wendy is a really well intentioned, good hearted person who would always want to do whats best for those she loves and cares for! I am also endeared by her sense of wonderment, curiosity and broad imagination! Wendy is so likeable!
What are your favourite things to do in Vancouver?
Being a big foodie exploring the different places to eat is always at the top of my list when visiting new cities! Gastown is great for food and I love the quirky aesthetic!
Who are you listening to on your playlist?
I don’t have a playlist but if I did Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles, alt-j, Dr. Draw and Lorde would be on it!
If you could describe yourself as any ice cream flavour, which would it be and why?
My favourite gelato flavours are banana and chocolate together! not the fake banana flavour however, the real banana flavour! But I guess if I was drawing a comparison between my personality and an ice cream flavour it would be curry flavoured ice cream because I love curry! That’s me in an ice cream cone!
